My new addition
by RT
Introducing my new weekend project, just in time for winter (brrr).:-)
This is my “new” bike that I bought off of an auction site for CHF 70 (same as US dollars at this point). It’s a 3-speed from a manufactuer named “Steyr,” which I’ve never heard of. The man I bought it from guessed that it was about 20 years old.
Yes, I know buying a 3-speed for an area such as Zurich is nuts.
Some type of way the company was connected to Puch and Austro-Daimler.
It’s old, rusty, cranky and needs work. We’re meant for each other.
I spent most of the morning trying to scrub the tires down with soap and water. When I hit the brakes, this screeching, rubbing sound occurs. A friend suggested the scrub down.
Pumping air is a challenge. The valves are neither Presta nor Schrader, but something called “Dunlop.” My bike pump doesn’t like it, or maybe it’s user error.
I need to get the rust off and shine it a little, but I’ll do that in time. Right now we’re just getting to know each other.
What do you think? Is it a boy or a girl?
What shall I name him/ her?
Oh, does anyone know the model name?
Update: Duh…”Touring” I guess.

I like her !
She’s a girl Rashunda .
Your bike doesn’t have the high bar as in guy’s bikes.
Ummmmmmmmmmmm name ? I will have to think about that one .
I’ts a girl, I think Betsy would be good.
3-spd is a bit nuts for Zurich, especially with the climb you have for work.
You can always push.
There’s a socially-conscious bike workshop near where you live (it’s a work project for the unemployed, go check it out).
Okay, she’s a girl named Betsy.:-) Thanks y’all!
@Susanne: I know, I know. A 3-speed is nuts. But the ride to work isn’t bad if I park at Central. The route is basically flat until then.
The brakes are still rubbing and making that weird sound, so I’ll check out the bike shop.
